The municipal area extends out along 65.18 km2, bordering the city towns of Albox, Cantoria, Albánchez, Lubrín, Zurgena and El Taberno. It has a population of 1,600 inhabitants, almost half the population it had at the beginning of the century.
The name of the village, situated on the right bank of Almanzora river, reminds us of large grove woods -the term árbol means tree in English- as this region used to be like in the old days. Mármol and Carvajal portrayed the land as “ rich in bread , legumes, silk and livestock . The slopes along the river house beautiful groves and irrigated areas for cultivation, and fruits are very tasty and early seasoned.”
The first inhabitants of the region date back to prehistoric times, as depicted by Casablanca and Maimí sites, among others. |
